“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”  –Margaret Mead

Founded on Earth Day in 2015, ProjectARCC is a community of archivists taking action on climate change. We believe that archivists, those responsible for the preservation of history for future generations, should be as passionate and concerned about preserving a habitable and safe planet for future generations.

We believe that archivists have a professional responsibility to:

Protect archival collections from the impact of climate change
Reduce our professional carbon and ecological footprint
Elevate relevant collections to improve public awareness and understanding of climate change
Preserve this epochal moment in history for future research and understanding

Get involved!

  1. Hi there,

I’m a reporter at Colorado Public Radio and I cover energy/environment issues. I’m curious if you have any followers/members based in Colorado? If so, I would love to chat with them. I learned about this group from Casey Davis at WGBH in Boston. Seems like a really cool group!

  2. Hi!

My name is Ava Goerzen, I am a 4th year anthropology/sociology student at the University of Ottawa. I am doing an ethnography on environmental activism and new media. I decided to focus my project on archiving of the government environmental data and was very excited to learn about ARCC as well as your collaboration with EDGI and DataRefuge.

My project in particular is trying to map the ecosystem of new media environmentalism. With the various data archiving events and the WebEx meetings as well as the various other platforms that people collaborate on, I am just fascinated with the extent of this project and also really inspired by what you guys are doing.

I was hoping that I might be able to speak with you or one of your members on their experience and their motivations behind their participation. If you know of anyone who would be interested in talking with me, I would love to get in touch!

Let me know if there is any additional information you would like to know or if you have any questions or concerns.

    Thanks,
    Ava
